LoadGen Recorder Wizard

With the release of LoadGen Q2 2022 release, we introduce the new LoadGen Recorder Wizard, which makes it even faster for our customers to build user simulations (Workloads) based on your company's used business applications. No code to write whatsoever!

LoadGen Recorder Wizard

When using the LoadGen Recorder Wizard we assume you want to build a very robust Workload. We think this only can be achieved by validating a specific control in an application and performing a call to action on the found control. As an example we use Microsoft Edge, you can start the application and wait until the Address and Search bar is there, if it's there we can click on it and send an URL as free text to this control. You can also wrap this validation into a Measurement, which basically starts the stopwatch after the application is started and before validating the control. When the control is found within the default timeout period (10 seconds) it will successfully stop the Measurement and otherwise fails it.

  1. To start the LoadGen Recorder Wizard press the Record button in the Application block of the LoadGen Recorder form.

  2. Press the Yes button to start the LoadGen Recorder Wizard.

  3. The LoadGen Recorder Wizard will start, you can press the Cancel button at any time to directly start recording the different actions.
  4. Press the checkbox to also create a whole new LoadGen Application. This application can easily be exported or in a near-future release uploaded to the LoadGen Workload Exchange.
  5. Press Next to continue to the next step.

  6. When you decided to create a new LoadGen Application you can enter the name of the application, and a description and choose the application icon.
  7. Press Next to continue to the next step.

  8. In this step you can choose to start an application, in our example, we start Microsoft Edge with the default profile. After you close the wizard, the chosen application will be automatically started.
  9. Press Next to continue to the next step.

  10. In this step, we explain how you can use the LoadGen Recorder Wizard.
  11. Press Next to continue to the next step.

  12. In this step, we explain how you can use the radial menu in the LoadGen Recorder Wizard.
  13. Press Next to continue to the next step.

  15. Press Next to continue to the next step.

  16. Now press Finish and you can start recording.

Add Measurement to Validation

When using the LoadGen Recorder Wizard we assume you want to build a very robust Workload. We think this only can be achieved by validating a specific control in an application and performing a call to action on the found control. As an example we use Microsoft Edge, you can start the application and wait until the Address and Search bar is there, if it's there we can click on it and send an URL as free text to this control. You can also wrap this validation into a Measurement, which basically starts the stopwatch after the application is started and before validating the control. When the control is found within the default timeout period (10 seconds) it will successfully stop the Measurement and otherwise fails it.
  1. The first step after finishing the LoadGen Recorder Wizard is validating on the Microsoft Edge Address and Search bar. After you cancel or finish the LoadGen Recorder Wizard the application will automatically be started for you.
  2. Just hover over the different controls and you will see the red line highlights the hovered control. Remember that when it's not highlighting you can press the CTRL - right mouse clicks to refresh the controls of the active window. Only press the CTRL key to bring up the radial menu: Click on it to open the radial menu.

  3. When you found the Address and Search bar, as shown in the image below, you can click on it, which automatically adds the Control Validation with the call to action: mouse click.

  4. Now we will wrap the Validation with a Measurement by pressing the CTRL key and clicking on the radial menu button. Within the radial menu click on the Add Measurement to last validation.

  5. Add a name to your Measurement, this will be stored in the database when running your actual test. So in this example, we will start Microsoft Edge, wait until the Address and Search bar is active, and the delta time is stored in the database under Application / Transaction: Microsoft Edge and Measurement / SubTransaction: Starting application.

  6. In the below image, you will see the graphical representation of the Measurement wrapped around the Validation.

Add Application Block

An Application Block is used as a folder in Windows Explorer. A visual representation of a group of combined actions, just a placeholder to make it easy for you to group specific actions.

  1. We continue our example by adding an Application Block, called the Goto website.
  2. Press the CTRL key again, and press the radial menu.
  3. Now select the Add Application Block.

  4. Add a name for your Application Block.

  5. In your Workload, you can see that the block is created and selected automatically. Now you can continue to add actions.
  6. In this example, we want to send the free text: www.loadgen.com with an Enter to the session (we already validated and clicked the Address and Search bar). Open the radial menu again (CTRL key) and select the Add Free Text option. This option will allow you to send a string to the session. After the text is sent you can press the Enter key. Of course, you can also start pressing keys, but keep in mind that every key is recorded, also the backspace.
  7. The actions are recorded in your Application Block and you can continue with validating a control on the just loaded page. In our example, we use the LoadGen website and validate on the Products control (if it's not highlighted just use the CTRL key and press the right mouse click in the pane).
