Using the default LoadGen Cloud End-to-End Monitoring Workload

This article describes the default LoadGen Cloud End-to-End Monitoring Workload. 

Prerequisites

For running the default LoadGen End-to-End Monitoring Workload we need the following prerequisites:

  • Windows 10 - English language.
  • Office 365 - English version.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader DC - English version.
  • Microsoft Edge - English version.

Default Documents

The following documents are used within this workload. make sure you have saved them on a location where the monitoring user can access them, after that change the variables:

  1. Press Start in the General Simulation Flow
  2. Go to the Custom Objects tab page.
  3. Change the following variables:
    1. ExcelFile: download default document.
    2. PdfFile: download default document.
    3. WordFile: download default document.

Microsoft Office

For running the Office suite smoothly you will need to perform the following actions:

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. Activate Office 365 (you must have a valid Office 365 license).
  3. Accept the Microsoft Office license agreement.
  4. Choose Office Open XML formats.
  5. Close Microsoft Word.
  6. Now open Microsoft Outlook.
  7. Connect your account.
  8. Wait until all the folders are up to date.

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

For running Adobe Reader smoothly you will need to make the following change:

  1. Open Adobe Reader.
  2. Choose Edit > Preferences.
  3. In the Categories list on the left, select Security (Enhanced).
  4. In the Sandbox Protections section, deselect Enable Protected Mode at startup.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.
  6. Close Adobe Reader.

General Simulation Flow

The following actions and validations are used in this Workload.

Application 1: Microsoft Outlook

  1. Application Block: Starting application
    In this Application Block, we will start the application and validate on a button control with the name New Email. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results. 
  2. Application Block: Create mail message
    In this Application Block, we will add information to the To, Subject, and Message fields, all based on variables that can be found on the Custom Objects tab page. The time of the transactions will be stored in the monitoring results.
  3. Application Block: Send mail message
    In this Application Block, we will send the actual mail. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results.
  4. Application Block: Closing application
    In this Application Block, we will close the application. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results.

Application 2: Microsoft Word

  1. Application Block: Starting application
    In this Application Block, we will start the application and validate on a button control with the name Open. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results. 
  2. Application Block: Open document
    In this Application Block, we will open the document from the Open File Dialog, all based on variables that can be found on the Custom Objects tab page. The time of the transactions will be stored in the monitoring results.
  3. Application Block: Scroll through document
    In this Application Block, we will scroll through the document. The time of the transactions will be stored in the monitoring results.
  4. Application Block: Closing application
    In this Application Block, we will close the application. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results.

Application 3: Microsoft Excel

  1. Application Block: Starting application
    In this Application Block, we will start the application and validate on a button control with the name Open. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results. 
  2. Application Block: Open spreadsheet
    In this Application Block, we will open the spreadsheet from the Open File Dialog, all based on variables that can be found on the Custom Objects tab page. The time of the transactions will be stored in the monitoring results.
  3. Application Block: Scroll through spreadsheet
    In this Application Block, we will scroll through the spreadsheet. The time of the transactions will be stored in the monitoring results.
  4. Application Block: Closing application
    In this Application Block, we will close the application. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results.

Application 4: Adobe Acrobat Reader

  1. Application Block: Starting application
    In this Application Block, we will start the application and validate on a button control with the name Open. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results. 
  2. Application Block: Open pdf
    In this Application Block, we will open the pdf from the Open File Dialog, all based on variables that can be found on the Custom Objects tab page. The time of the transactions will be stored in the monitoring results.
  3. Application Block: Scroll through pdf
    In this Application Block, we will scroll through the pdf. The time of the transactions will be stored in the monitoring results.
  4. Application Block: Closing application
    In this Application Block, we will close the application. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results.

Application 4: Microsoft Edge

  1. Application Block: Starting application
    In this Application Block, we will start the application and validate on a button control with the name Open. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results. 
  2. Application Block: Open the website
    In this Application Block, we will open the website edge://surf/ which will open the Surf game.
  3. Application Block: Surf through the website
    In this Application Block, we start surfing. The time of the transactions will be stored in the monitoring results.
  4. Application Block: Closing application
    In this Application Block, we will close the application. The time of the transaction will be stored in the monitoring results.
