Configuration: Systems Under Test: Profiles

Overview

Use this page to create and manage Systems Under Test (SUT) profiles. A SUT profile groups the servers you want monitored during a load test together with the Windows Performance Counters, such as CPU, Memory, and Disk, collected from those servers. Instead of selecting machines and counters individually for every test, you build a reusable profile that represents a target environment, for example a web farm or a Citrix deployment, once and reference it wherever monitoring is needed.

Before a profile is useful, the target machines need a LoadGen Agent installed so counters can be collected, and any required connection credentials should be set up in Configuration: Credential Profiles. Once a profile is defined and populated with machines, either directly or through a counter template, it becomes available to attach to load tests so performance data is captured alongside test results.

This page lists every SUT profile with its machine and template counts, and lets you create a new profile, open an existing one for editing, delete a profile you no longer need, and refresh the list to see current counts.

Key concepts

  • SUT profile - A named grouping of target machines and the Windows Performance Counters collected from them during load tests. (related: Configuration: Systems Under Test: Machines)
  • Windows Performance Counter - A metric such as CPU, Memory, or Disk usage collected from a monitored machine during a load test. (related: Configuration: Systems Under Test: PerfCounter Settings)
  • counter template - A reusable, predefined set of performance counters you can apply to a profile instead of adding counters one by one. (related: Configuration: Systems Under Test: Templates)
  • LoadGen Agent - Software installed on a target machine that collects Windows Performance Counters for a SUT profile. (related: Configuration: LoadGen Agents: Full Agents)

When to use it

  • You are setting up monitoring for a new environment or server farm before running a load test.
  • You need to check how many machines and counter templates are currently assigned to each profile.
  • You are updating which machines or counter templates belong to an existing profile.
  • A credential used to connect to a monitored system is expiring and you need to go reissue it.
  • You are retiring a profile for an environment that is no longer tested.

Before you begin

  • The target machines you want to monitor have a LoadGen Agent installed, configured under Configuration: LoadGen Agents: Full Agents.
  • Any connection credentials the monitored machines need are already set up in Configuration: Credential Profiles.
  • You know whether you want to apply a reusable counter template, defined in Configuration: Systems Under Test: Templates, or add counters individually after creating the profile.

Common workflows

Create a new SUT profile

Persona: Load-test operator

  1. Select Create SUT Profile in the page header.
    • Expect: The Create SUT Profile dialog opens with a Profile Name field.
  2. Enter a name, for example "Production Servers", into Profile Name and select Create.
    • Expect: The dialog closes, the new profile appears in the table with 0 in MACHINES and 0 in TEMPLATES, and the page opens the profile's detail page to add machines and counters.

Verify: The profile you named appears as a new row in the Systems Under Test table. Open it again to confirm machines or a counter template have been added before relying on it for a test.

Delete a SUT profile no longer needed

Persona: Administrator

  1. Select the trash icon in the ACTIONS column for the profile to remove.
    • Expect: The Delete SUT Profile confirmation dialog opens.
  2. Select Delete in the confirmation dialog.
    • Expect: The dialog closes and the profile no longer appears in the table.

Verify: The removed profile's row is gone from the Systems Under Test table; its name no longer appears as an option when attaching monitoring to a load test.

Confirm current machine and template counts

Persona: Load-test operator

  1. Select Refresh in the page header.
    • Expect: The table reloads with the latest MACHINES and TEMPLATES counts for every profile, and the Credentials expiring notification closes.

Verify: The MACHINES and TEMPLATES values shown for each profile match what was most recently configured on their detail pages.

Steps

Step 1

Open the Systems Under Test page from Configuration.

Expected result: The page loads showing the SUT profiles table with two existing profiles, LoadGen Demo (1 machine, 0 templates) and Production Citrix Farm (0 machines, 0 templates), along with a Credentials expiring notification about the Orders API token.

This table is the starting point for creating, editing, or deleting the SUT profiles used to monitor machines during load tests.

  • Create SUT Profile opens the dialog to add a new profile.
  • The Credentials expiring notification links to Configuration: Credential Profiles to reissue the expiring token. Configuration: Systems Under Test: Profiles - step 1

Step 2

Select Refresh.

Expected result: The table reloads with the same two profiles, and the Credentials expiring notification closes.

Refreshing confirms you are viewing current machine and template counts before editing or deleting a profile.

  • The Close control on the notification is no longer present after the refresh. Configuration: Systems Under Test: Profiles - step 2

Field reference

Field Purpose Format / Validation Required Default
Profile Name Sets the display name for the new SUT profile. Use a name that identifies the environment or server group being monitored so you can recognize it in the table and when attaching it to a load test. free text Yes -

Column reference

Column What it shows How to read it
NAME Identifies the SUT profile by the name given at creation. Read down this column to find the profile you want to open, edit, or delete.
MACHINES Shows the number of target machines currently grouped under the profile. A value of 0 means no machines are assigned yet, so the profile will not produce monitoring data until you add machines on its detail page.
TEMPLATES Shows the number of counter templates applied to the profile. A value of 0 means the profile has no counter template applied yet; it may still have individually added counters, or none at all.
ACTIONS Provides per-row controls to edit or delete the profile. Select the pencil icon to open the profile for editing, or the trash icon to delete it.

Controls reference

Refresh

Reloads the SUT profiles table from the server.

When to use: Use after creating, editing, or deleting profiles elsewhere in the platform to confirm this table reflects the current state.

Side effects: Read-only; it does not change any profile data, though it can clear the Credentials expiring notification from view.

Create SUT Profile

Opens the Create SUT Profile dialog where you enter a Profile Name.

When to use: Use when you need to monitor a new set of machines or a new environment during load tests.

Side effects: Mutating once you submit the dialog: creates a new profile record with 0 machines and 0 templates and opens its detail page so you can add machines and counters.

Edit

Opens the selected profile's detail page.

When to use: Use to add or remove machines, apply a counter template, or rename an existing profile.

Side effects: Read-only on this page; any data changes happen on the detail page it opens.

Delete

Opens the Delete SUT Profile confirmation dialog for the selected row.

When to use: Use to remove a profile that is no longer needed for monitoring.

Side effects: Mutating after you confirm: permanently removes the profile and its machine and template associations from the table.

Close

Dismisses the Credentials expiring notification overlapping the page.

When to use: Use to clear the warning once you have reissued the referenced token or acknowledged it.

Side effects: Read-only; only hides the notification, it does not renew or reissue the expiring credential.

Verify the result

After creating a profile, it appears as a new row in the Systems Under Test table with the name you entered and 0 in both MACHINES and TEMPLATES until you add machines or a template on its detail page. After deleting a profile, its row no longer appears in the table. Select Refresh at any point to confirm the table matches the current state on the server. If a profile you expect to see is missing, or a count does not match what you configured, open the profile with Edit and check its machine and template assignments directly.

Troubleshooting

  • Symptom: A profile shows 0 in MACHINES. Fix: Open the profile with Edit and add at least one target machine; the profile will not collect monitoring data until a machine is assigned.
  • Symptom: The Create SUT Profile dialog will not save. Fix: Enter a value in Profile Name; the field is required and the dialog needs a name before it creates the profile.
  • Symptom: The Credentials expiring notification keeps appearing. Fix: Reissue the referenced token under Configuration: Credential Profiles before it expires; selecting Close only hides the notification and does not renew the credential.
  • Symptom: A profile you just created on its detail page is missing from this table. Fix: Select Refresh to reload the table, and confirm the profile was saved successfully on its detail page.
  • Symptom: Deleting a profile appears to have no effect. Fix: Confirm the removal in the Delete SUT Profile dialog; closing the dialog without selecting Delete cancels the deletion.
