Create and manage test scenarios

Create and manage test scenarios

Mode: the create and edit controls described on this page are shown in Expert mode (sidebar footer toggle Mode: Basic / Expert). In Basic mode the page shows only Refresh.

Overview

Create a test scenario to define how load is applied during a test. A scenario is a named, reusable ordered sequence of user phases and idle phases: it controls the shape of the load curve independently of the test content, so the same concurrency pattern can be reused across load profiles.

Before you begin

  • At least one load profile is configured.
  • The Load & Performance Testing module is active. If the page shows Activate License for Module LG050, activate the module before continuing.
  • You know the shape of the load curve you want: how many virtual users, over how long, and where the idle periods sit.

Steps

Step 1

Open Scenarios from the Testing area. Review the scenario list, summary values, and available actions. Use Refresh if you need to reload the list, or use Create Scenario or New Scenario to start a new scenario. When no scenarios exist yet, the page shows a No scenarios configured empty state with a + Create Scenario button. Step 2

In the scenario editor, enter a Scenario Name and choose whether it is the active scenario. Set Fixed Duration when the scenario should run for a set length of time, and set Exit Type to control how the scenario ends.

Build the load curve by adding phases in order:

  • + Users adds a user phase: a period during which the number of active virtual users increases, holds steady, or decreases toward a target over a set duration.
  • + Idle adds an idle phase: a period during which virtual users are present but generate no active load, used to model think time or recovery pauses between ramp stages.

Set the values for each phase, then save the scenario.

A Users phase has Total Users, Users per Batch and Interval (sec) (the editor shows the resulting rate, for example "~0,4 min · 24 users/min"); an Idle phase has Duration (sec). Each phase chip reads like "P1: Users (5 users, 0,5m)" and carries an Events counter. Scenario Settings offers Linked Scenario, Scenario Name, Exit Type (Default, Disconnect, Logoff), Active, Randomize Users and Fixed Duration (min), plus Scenario Actions (On Start / On Stop). The save control is Create Scenario for a new scenario and Save Changes when editing; an existing scenario also lists its Connected Load Profiles.

Verify the result

The scenario appears in the Scenarios list as a card showing its phase composition bar, timeline preview, peak-user count, and total duration. If it was marked as active, the KPI summary row above the grid shows it as the Active Scenario. If no card appears after saving, select Refresh, and check that the Search scenarios field is not filtering it out.

Troubleshooting

  • If only the Activate License prompt is visible, activate Module LG050 before trying to create or edit scenarios.
  • If no scenarios are listed, select Create Scenario to add the first scenario.
  • If a phase is incorrect, edit the scenario, update the phase values, then save the scenario again.
  • If connected load profiles are not shown while creating a scenario, save the scenario first, then edit it to review connected load profiles.
