Uptime Monitoring: Dashboards

Uptime Monitoring: Dashboards

Overview

Use this page to create and manage saved uptime dashboards. A dashboard is a saved, reusable view that groups a chosen set of uptime checks into tiles so you can monitor them at a glance instead of scanning the full checks list. Dashboards solve the problem of needing different views for different audiences, such as a wall display covering every check versus a view scoped to one team.

Dashboards sit downstream of the checks you configure on the Checks page: without at least one check, a dashboard has nothing to show. Once built, a dashboard can become your personal default or the shared appliance-wide default, deciding what opens automatically when you or another user lands on Monitoring and Uptime. Incidents raised against those checks are investigated separately on the Incidents page.

On this page you can switch between All, Mine, and Shared with me, create a dashboard, edit or duplicate an existing one, delete ones you no longer need, and set a dashboard as your personal or appliance-wide default. Until you create one, the page shows an empty state panel instead of a dashboard list.

Key concepts

  • dashboard - A saved, reusable view that groups a chosen set of uptime checks into tiles for at-a-glance monitoring. (related: Uptime Monitoring: Checks)
  • Visibility - Controls whether a dashboard is visible only to its owner or shared with other users who have access.
  • appliance default - The dashboard that opens automatically for any user who has not set their own personal default landing dashboard. (related: Uptime Monitoring: My dashboard)
  • Fleet overview - A built-in, unowned board that covers every check on the appliance; it can be set as a default like any other dashboard but has no stored record of its own. (related: Uptime Monitoring: Checks)

When to use it

  • You want a single saved view of just the checks relevant to your team instead of scrolling the full checks list.
  • You need to switch between dashboards you own and ones colleagues have shared with you.
  • You're setting up a shared view, such as a wall display, that the whole team should land on.
  • You want to change which dashboard opens automatically for you personally or for everyone on the appliance.
  • You want to reuse an existing dashboard's tile layout as the starting point for a new one.

Before you begin

  • At least one uptime check exists; dashboards display tiles built from checks, which you create on Uptime Monitoring: Checks.
  • The Uptime Monitoring module is enabled on your license; dashboards are part of that module.
  • You know whether the dashboard should be Private or Shared, since only the owner or a global administrator can change a dashboard's visibility later.

Common workflows

Create your first uptime dashboard

Persona: Load-test operator setting up a saved view

  1. Open Uptime Monitoring: Dashboards and select Create your first dashboard.
    • Expect: The create dashboard dialog opens with Name, Description, Visibility, Tiles per row, and Tags fields.
  2. Enter a descriptive name and choose Shared for Visibility if the team needs to see it.
    • Expect: The Name field holds your text and Visibility reflects your choice between Private and Shared.
  3. Set Tiles per row for how many checks you want visible at a glance, then confirm the dialog.
    • Expect: The dialog closes and the new dashboard appears as a row under both the All and Mine tabs.

Verify: The dashboard appears as a row under All (and under Mine since you own it), and opening it shows its tile grid instead of the empty state panel.

Set your personal default dashboard

Persona: Operator who wants a specific dashboard to open automatically

  1. From the All tab, find the dashboard you want to land on by default.
    • Expect: Its row shows the personal default star alongside edit, duplicate, and delete controls, if your role has access to them.
  2. Select the star control on that row.
    • Expect: The star fills in to mark this dashboard as your personal default; any dashboard that held your personal default before loses it.

Verify: The next time you open Monitoring and Uptime, this dashboard opens automatically instead of the Fleet overview board or the appliance-wide default dashboard.

Steps

Step 1

Open Dashboards under Monitoring and Uptime.

Expected result: The page loads on the All tab with an empty state panel reading No dashboards yet., since no dashboards have been created, and a Create your first dashboard link.

This is the starting point for creating and managing the saved views you'll use to monitor checks going forward.

  • The All, Mine, and Shared with me tabs sit above the list; All is active by default.
  • Select Create your first dashboard to open the create dialog and build your first saved view. Uptime Monitoring: Dashboards - step 1

Tabs on this page

  • All - Shows every dashboard you can access: dashboards you own, dashboards shared with you, and the built-in Fleet overview board.
    • A list of dashboard rows with default, edit, duplicate, and delete row controls; no input fields on the tab itself.
  • Mine - Filters the list down to dashboards you created and own.
    • Same row layout as All, restricted to dashboards you own.
  • Shared with me - Filters the list down to dashboards other users have made Shared with you.
    • Same row layout as All, restricted to dashboards owned by someone else.

Field reference

Field Purpose Format / Validation Required Default
Name Identifies the dashboard in the All, Mine, and Shared with me lists and in any default-landing picker. Use a specific name so operators can tell dashboards apart at a glance. free text Yes -
Description A free text note describing what the dashboard is for. Useful on a Shared dashboard so other users understand its purpose without opening every tile. free text No -
Visibility Controls who can see the dashboard. Set it to keep the dashboard visible only to you, or to Shared so other users with access can see and open it. Only the dashboard's owner or a global administrator can change this later. Private or Shared - -
Tiles per row Sets how many check tiles display across each row of the dashboard grid. A higher value fits more checks on screen at once, useful for wall displays, but shrinks each tile's detail; a lower value shows fewer, larger tiles with more readable detail per check. numeric - -
Tags Free text labels attached to the dashboard for your own categorization or filtering. Add one or more tags to group related dashboards. free text, added one tag at a time No -

Controls reference

New dashboard

Opens the create dashboard dialog.

When to use: When at least one dashboard already exists and you want to add another.

Side effects: Read only until you save: opens the dialog but makes no change by itself.

Create your first dashboard

Opens the same create dashboard dialog as New dashboard.

When to use: The first time you set up a dashboard, while the list is still empty.

Side effects: Read only until you save: opens the dialog but makes no change by itself.

Personal default (star control on a dashboard row)

Marks or clears this dashboard as the one that opens for you personally.

When to use: When you want a specific dashboard to be your own landing view instead of the appliance-wide default.

Side effects: Mutating: changes your personal landing dashboard immediately; setting it on one dashboard clears it from whichever dashboard held it before.

Edit (row control)

Opens the dashboard's details for editing: Name, Description, Visibility, Tiles per row, and Tags.

When to use: To rename a dashboard, change who can see it, or adjust its layout.

Side effects: Read only until you save: opens the dialog but makes no change by itself.

Duplicate (row control)

Creates a copy of the dashboard.

When to use: When you want an existing dashboard's tile layout as the starting point for a new one instead of building from scratch.

Side effects: Mutating: adds a new dashboard to the list immediately.

Appliance default (row control)

Marks or clears this dashboard as the appliance-wide default that opens for any user who has not set a personal default.

When to use: When setting up the shared landing view for the whole team.

Side effects: Mutating: changes the default landing dashboard for every user without a personal default; only one dashboard can hold it at a time.

Delete (row control)

Opens a confirmation prompt before removing the dashboard.

When to use: When a dashboard is no longer needed.

Side effects: Opens a confirmation only; the dashboard is removed, which cannot be undone, only after you confirm in that prompt.

Cancel

Closes the open dialog without saving.

When to use: When you decide not to complete a create, edit, or delete action.

Side effects: Read only: discards any unsaved changes in the dialog.

Fleet overview

Opens a built-in board covering every check on the appliance.

When to use: When you want a complete view without creating a dashboard of your own.

Side effects: Read only: this board has no stored record or owner, so it offers no edit, duplicate, or delete control, though it can still be set as a default.

All checks

Navigates to the full list of uptime checks.

When to use: When you want to work with checks directly rather than through a dashboard tile.

Side effects: Read only navigation: no data changes.

Verify the result

After you create a dashboard, the empty state panel is replaced by a list that includes it, and it appears under both All and Mine (or Shared with me if someone else shared it with you). Opening the dashboard shows its tile grid instead of the No dashboards yet. message. If you expect a dashboard and don't see it, check that you're on the right tab, since Mine and Shared with me only show a subset of what All shows. If creation seemed to fail, look for the Give the dashboard a name. message, since Name is required before the dialog will save.

Troubleshooting

  • Symptom: Selecting Create your first dashboard, filling in the fields, and confirming does not add a row to the list. Fix: Check for the Give the dashboard a name. message: Name is required, so re-enter it and confirm again.
  • Symptom: The personal default, edit, duplicate, or delete controls don't appear on a dashboard row. Fix: Your account role doesn't carry the grant for that action on this dashboard; ask an administrator to check your dashboard permissions.
  • Symptom: You can't change a Shared dashboard's Visibility to Private. Fix: Only the dashboard's owner or a global administrator can change visibility; ask the owner or an administrator to make the change.
  • Symptom: Selecting Mine or Shared with me shows no rows even though dashboards exist elsewhere. Fix: Switch to All to see everything you can access: Mine only lists dashboards you own, and Shared with me only lists dashboards someone else shared with you.
  • Symptom: Opening a dashboard you used before shows That dashboard no longer exists. Fix: Its owner has deleted it; pick another dashboard from the list or create a new one.
