Buy a license from the appliance

Buy a license from the appliance

Overview

A LoadGen license can be bought from the appliance it is for. You choose the product and tier on the appliance, pay with a card on Stripe's own payment page, and are brought back to the appliance, where the license arrives seconds later. The license is bound to the appliance you buy it on.

There are three ways to start a purchase, all leading to the same Buy a licence form:

  • the Buy tab of Infrastructure > Licensing;
  • a Buy MODULE button on the page of a module you are not licensed for;
  • a promotion card on the Home page.

Prices are in euros, excluding VAT. Stripe adds the VAT for your country and e-mails the invoice.

Before you begin

  • You are signed in on the appliance itself. When the header is connected to another appliance, nothing can be bought: "Licences are bought on the appliance they are for; this header is connected to another appliance."
  • The appliance has a LoadGen Cloud account stored, and can reach LoadGen Cloud. A licence manager connects the account on the Online License tab of Infrastructure > Licensing, in the Cloud Credentials card.
  • Check where payments return to: on the Online License tab, the Cloud Credentials card shows "Payments return to URL". That is where the browser comes back after paying. The appliance registers the address it is opened on automatically; if the card shows a different address, select Register ADDRESS to register the address this page is open on. With no return address registered, the buyer lands on LoadGen Cloud's own page after paying; the license is still granted, and Refresh from Cloud on the Online License tab fetches it.
  • Not every module is sold online. For a module that cannot be bought here, contact LoadGen.

Steps

Step 1

Open Infrastructure > Licensing and select the Buy tab. The tab is only shown when the appliance can sell: signed in, not connected to another appliance, and offered buying by its API. If the tab says "Nothing can be bought from this appliance right now.", check the conditions above.

Step 2

In Buy a licence, choose the Product and the Tier. For tiers sold per unit, enter the Quantity. Then choose the Period; each period button shows its price.

Read the sentence under the form before you continue. It says whether the purchase renews, for example "Renews yearly until cancelled." or "One period; it ends by itself and is not renewed.", and names the appliance the license is bound to: "Buying for another appliance happens on that appliance."

Step 3

Select Continue to payment. The browser opens Stripe's payment page. Pay with a card there.

Step 4

After paying, the browser returns to the appliance, to the page you started from. A banner follows the activation:

  • "Payment received. Activating..." while the appliance refreshes the license from LoadGen Cloud.
  • "Activated: MODULE" with the licensed quantity and end date, and "Its pages are open on this appliance." The license is loaded without a further click.

If you close the payment page before paying, the banner says "Nothing was charged."

Manage the subscription

Licence managers see Manage subscription and invoices on the current license card of Infrastructure > Licensing. It opens Stripe's Billing Portal for this subscription, with its invoices and the option to cancel a renewing plan. Back on the appliance, the banner reads "Back from Stripe's Billing Portal.": a plan you cancelled keeps its license until its paid end date, and any other change reaches the appliance with the next license refresh.

Troubleshooting

  • "Payment received, but it has not reached this appliance yet." after a minute: LoadGen Cloud grants the license as soon as Stripe confirms the payment, which usually takes seconds. A licence manager can use Refresh from Cloud on the Online License tab to fetch it. Keep the reference the banner shows for LoadGen Support.
  • "No LoadGen Cloud account is stored on this appliance." A licence manager connects it on the Online License tab first.
  • "Payment could not be started. Try again in a moment; nothing was charged." The payment page could not be opened. Try again; if it persists, contact LoadGen Support.
  • "This product cannot be bought online yet. Contact LoadGen." The product is sold through LoadGen directly.
  • "Your role cannot do this. Ask an administrator." Your role is not allowed the action, for example opening the Billing Portal, which is for licence managers.
