Sign in as another account in one browser tab

Sign in as another account in one browser tab

Overview

Each browser tab of the LoadGen Platform keeps its own session. You can therefore have one tab signed in as yourself and another signed in as a second account, for example to check what a restricted role sees, or to let a licence manager complete a step while your own session stays open.

The user menu in the header offers My Profile, Settings and Sign Out; it has no switch item. You switch accounts from the sign-in page with the switch option, or from the licence panel when your role is refused there.

Before you begin

  • You have the user name and password of the other account, or it can sign in through one of the configured single sign-on providers.
  • A new tab picks up the sign-in of a tab that is still open, until you sign out of it or close every tab. Open the tab you want to switch first, then switch it.

Switch one tab to another account

Step 1

In the tab you want to switch, go to the sign-in page with the switch option: add /login?switch=1 to the appliance address, for example https://APPLIANCE_HOST/login?switch=1.

Without switch=1, a tab that is already signed in goes straight on to the platform instead of showing the form.

Step 2

The page tells you who this tab is signed in as: "This tab is signed in as USER. Signing in here as another account changes this tab only; your other tabs stay signed in." To go back without switching, select Keep using USER.

Step 3

Sign in as the other account: enter the user name and password under Welcome back and select Sign In, or select Sign in with PROVIDER for single sign-on. The single sign-on buttons ask your identity provider to let you pick an account, so you are not signed straight back in as yourself.

Your current account stays signed in until the new sign-in succeeds. If it fails, the tab is still yours.

Step 4

After a successful sign-in, the tab reloads the page it came from as the new account, and live updates reconnect as that account. Your other tabs are not affected.

From the licence panel

When the licence page refuses an action because of your role, the panel offers Sign in with another account. This works differently from the switch option: it first signs this tab out completely, including the single sign-on session, and then opens the sign-in page. Use it when the other account must sign in on its own, for example a licence manager at your desk.

Notes

  • Switching always signs in on this appliance, also when the header is connected to another appliance's API.
  • To return to your own account, switch the tab back the same way, or close it and continue in a tab that is still signed in as you.
