Analyse: Analysis

Analyse: Analysis

Overview

Use this page to run an ad-hoc analytics operation, preview the chart it produces, and save it onto a dashboard or into a saved-chart folder. Analysis is a workbench: pick an operation, such as a comparison, trend, percentile breakdown, distribution, correlation, or transaction summary, choose how to visualize it, and check the result before deciding whether to keep it.

Analysis works on data the rest of the platform has already produced, such as load test runs, API testing runs, or monitoring checks. What you build here feeds forward: a chart you save becomes a panel on a dashboard, or a standalone entry in your saved-chart library that you can reopen and reuse.

On this page you name the chart with a Panel title, configure the Operation and Visualization, add axis titles, and click Run to render the result in the Preview panel. From there you save the chart to a dashboard or a folder, or, if you're editing an existing saved chart, apply your changes back onto it.

Key concepts

  • Operation - The analytics calculation you run against your test or monitoring data: a comparison, trend, percentile breakdown, distribution, correlation, or transaction summary.
  • Panel - A single chart placed onto a dashboard. Running an operation here and choosing Save to dashboard adds it as one panel. (related: Analyse: Dashboards)
  • Saved chart - An operation and its visualization settings stored on their own, outside any dashboard, so you can reopen and reuse them later. (related: Analyse: Saved charts)
  • Preview - The rendered chart shown in this page's Preview panel after you click Run, using the same renderer dashboards use, so you can check a chart before saving it anywhere. (related: Analyse: Dashboards)

When to use it

  • When you need a one-off chart to answer a specific question without building a permanent dashboard panel.
  • When you want to test an operation and its visualization before committing it to a dashboard.
  • When you're prototyping a chart that you'll save to a folder or dashboard for later reuse.
  • When you opened this page from a saved chart's Edit action and need to adjust its operation or visualization before updating it.
  • When you want to jump to the platform-wide analytics summary or browse charts you've already saved.

Before you begin

  • At least one test run, API testing run, or monitoring check already exists for the operation to analyze, for example completed runs under Testing: Test Runs or checks under Uptime Monitoring: Checks.
  • If you plan to add the result to an existing dashboard rather than a new one, that dashboard already exists, created on Analyse: Dashboards.
  • Your license includes the Analyse save feature if you intend to use Save to dashboard or Save to folder; running and previewing an operation does not require it.
  • If you want to edit an existing chart instead of starting a new one, open it from Analyse: Saved charts using its Edit action rather than navigating here directly.

Common workflows

Run an ad-hoc analysis and save it to a dashboard

Persona: load-test operator

  1. Select an operation type, such as compare, trends, or percentiles, in the Operation composer.
    • Expect: The composer shows the parameters relevant to that operation type, and Visualization updates to that operation's recommended chart type.
  2. Configure the operation's parameters and, if needed, override the suggested Visualization and axis titles.
    • Expect: The Preview panel still shows the empty-state placeholder until you run the operation.
  3. Click Run.
    • Expect: The Preview panel renders the chart using the configured operation and visualization, replacing the empty-state placeholder.
  4. Click Save to dashboard and choose a target dashboard.
    • Expect: The chart is saved as a new panel on that dashboard.

Verify: Open Analyse: Dashboards and confirm the new panel appears with the Panel title and chart you configured.

Save a chart for later reuse without a dashboard

Persona: load-test operator

  1. Run an operation until the Preview panel shows the chart you want to keep.
    • Expect: The chart renders in the Preview panel.
  2. Click Save to folder and name the chart.
    • Expect: The chart is saved as a standalone entry you can find under Saved charts.

Verify: Open Analyse: Saved charts and confirm the chart you named now appears in the list.

Update an existing saved chart

Persona: load-test operator editing a chart

  1. Open a saved chart's Edit action from Analyse: Saved charts.
    • Expect: The Analysis page loads with that chart's operation, visualization, and axis titles pre-filled in the composer.
  2. Adjust the operation, visualization, or axis titles as needed and click Run to confirm the updated preview.
    • Expect: The Preview panel re-renders with your changes.
  3. Click Apply.
    • Expect: The saved chart's panel definition and thumbnail are overwritten with your changes; the chart's name and folder stay the same.

Verify: Return to Analyse: Saved charts and confirm the chart's thumbnail and content reflect your edits, while its name and folder are unchanged.

Steps

Step 1

Open Analysis from the Analyse section of the navigation menu.

Expected result: The Analysis page loads with Panel title defaulted to "Analysis" and the Preview panel showing a placeholder that reads "Configure the operation below and click Run."

This ad-hoc workbench is where you compose and run an analytics operation before saving it anywhere else in Analyse.

  • The Preview panel stays empty until you configure an operation below and click Run.
  • Panel title defaults to "Analysis"; rename it before saving if you want a more specific label. Analyse: Analysis - step 1

Field reference

Field Purpose Format / Validation Required Default
Panel title Names the chart. This becomes the heading shown in the Preview panel and the title used once you save the chart to a dashboard or folder; choose a specific name so you can find it later instead of leaving the default. free text No Analysis
Operation Selects the analytics calculation to run, spanning domains such as compare, trends, percentiles, distribution, correlate, and transactions. Your choice determines which parameters the rest of the composer asks for and what Run renders in the Preview panel. selector Yes -
Visualization Chooses how the operation's result is charted, for example as a line or bar. Each operation suggests a default visualization suited to its data; override it when a different chart type reads better, such as switching a trend from a line to an area chart to emphasize volume. selector No the selected operation's recommended chart type
X axis title Labels the chart's horizontal axis in the Preview panel and on the saved panel. Leave it blank to use the default label; set it when the default doesn't clearly describe your data, for example naming a time bucket. free text No -
Y axis title Labels the chart's vertical axis in the Preview panel and on the saved panel. Set it when the operation's default label doesn't clearly describe your metric, for example naming the unit being measured. free text No -

Controls reference

Use

Applies a suggested value shown in the composer, such as a recommended setting, to the field it's attached to with one click.

When to use: When the composer surfaces a recommended value you want to accept instead of typing it yourself.

Side effects: Fills in the field it's attached to; does not run the operation or save anything.

Run

Executes the configured operation against the underlying data and renders the result in the Preview panel.

When to use: After selecting an Operation and configuring its parameters, Visualization, and axis titles.

Side effects: Runs a read query and replaces the Preview panel's contents; does not persist anything by itself.

Save to dashboard

Saves the current operation and visualization as a new panel on a dashboard you choose.

When to use: Once Run has produced the chart you want to keep and track going forward.

Side effects: Mutating: creates a persistent panel on the selected dashboard.

Save to folder

Saves the current operation and visualization as a named, standalone saved chart you can browse later under Saved charts, without placing it on a dashboard.

When to use: When you want to keep a chart for reuse without pinning it to a dashboard yet.

Side effects: Mutating: creates a new saved chart. It always creates a copy, even if you opened this page by editing an existing chart; it never overwrites the original.

Apply

Only available when you opened this page from an existing saved chart's Edit action: re-saves your changes to the operation, visualization, and axis titles back onto that same saved chart, including a refreshed thumbnail.

When to use: After adjusting an existing saved chart's operation or visualization and you want to update that chart in place rather than create a copy.

Side effects: Mutating: overwrites the saved chart's panel definition and thumbnail. It does not change the chart's name, folder, or description; use Saved charts to rename or move it.

Cross-feature summary

Opens the platform-wide analytics summary page.

When to use: When you want the broader analytics context before or after running an ad-hoc operation.

Side effects: Read-only navigation; leaves this page without saving anything.

Saved charts

Opens the list of charts you've previously saved to folders.

When to use: To find, reopen, or edit a chart you saved earlier instead of starting a new one.

Side effects: Read-only navigation; leaves this page without saving anything.

Raw results

Shows the operation's result as a data table in addition to the chart in Preview.

When to use: When you need exact values rather than reading them off the chart.

Side effects: Read-only: toggles a table into view without changing the operation, the chart, or anything saved.

Verify the result

After clicking Run, the Preview panel replaces its empty-state placeholder with the rendered chart for your chosen Operation, using the Visualization and axis titles you set. If you then click Save to dashboard or Save to folder, the chart becomes available on the selected dashboard, in Analyse: Dashboards, or in the Saved charts list. If Preview still shows the placeholder after clicking Run, the operation has not produced a result; check that you selected an Operation and its required parameters. If Save to dashboard or Save to folder appears to do nothing, confirm your license includes the Analyse save feature.

Troubleshooting

  • Symptom: Preview keeps showing "Configure the operation below and click Run." Fix: Select an Operation and configure its parameters, then click Run again.
  • Symptom: Save to dashboard or Save to folder has no visible effect. Fix: Saving requires a licensed Analyse save entitlement; confirm your license covers it or check with your administrator.
  • Symptom: The Apply button isn't available. Fix: Apply only appears when you opened Analysis from an existing saved chart's Edit action on Analyse: Saved charts; open the page that way instead of navigating here directly.
  • Symptom: Visualization reverts to a chart type you didn't pick. Fix: Changing Operation resets Visualization to that operation's recommended chart type; reapply your override after switching operations.
  • Symptom: Save to folder creates a new chart instead of updating the one you were editing. Fix: Save to folder always creates a copy, even in edit mode; use Apply to update the original saved chart in place.
