Analyse: Overview
Overview
Use this page to navigate to the Dashboards, Reports, Analysis, and Datasources areas of the Analyse module. Analyse is LoadGen's business-intelligence layer: it turns the raw data your tests and monitors produce into panels, ad hoc investigations, and customer-ready exports, so you do not have to pull numbers out of LoadGen by hand.
Analyse sits downstream of the rest of the platform. Before you build anything here, you need test or monitoring data from areas such as Load Testing, End-to-End Monitoring, Uptime Monitoring, Service Levels, Insight, or SessionSight, plus at least one connected datasource. What you build in Analyse, dashboards, saved analyses, and reports, is what you then share with stakeholders or keep as a reusable view of ongoing results.
This page itself does not display any data. It presents four cards, one for each sub-area, so you can jump straight to building a dashboard, running an analysis, generating a report, or checking a datasource connection, without first deciding where that feature lives in the navigation.
Key concepts
- Dashboard - A grid of panels built over a datasource that can be saved, shared, and reused as a template. (related: Analyse: Dashboards)
- Report - A customer-ready PDF or XLSX export generated from your data for sharing outside LoadGen. (related: Analyse: Reports)
- Analysis - An ad hoc investigation view that compares, trends, or correlates data, such as percentiles or distributions, over a chosen period. (related: Analyse: Analysis)
- Datasource - A connection, such as InfluxDB, SQL, or JSON, that supplies the data a dashboard or report draws from. (related: Configuration: Datasources)
When to use it
- You want a single entry point into every BI feature (dashboards, reports, analysis, datasources) instead of hunting through the left navigation.
- You are starting a new dashboard or report and need to confirm a datasource is connected first.
- You want to compare trends, percentiles, or correlations across test runs or monitoring data.
- You need to generate a customer-ready export after a test run or a monitoring period.
- You are onboarding a new environment and need to check which BI connections already exist.
Before you begin
- Your LoadGen license includes the Analyse module; without it, the ANALYSE section does not appear in the left navigation.
- At least one datasource (InfluxDB, SQL, or JSON) is connected on Configuration: Datasources if you plan to build a dashboard or report.
- Test or monitoring data already exists, for example from Testing: Test Runs or End-to-End Monitoring: Dashboard, for the period you want to analyze or report on.
Common workflows
Jump from the Analyse landing page to a dashboard
Persona: Load test operator reviewing recent test results
- Sign in to LoadGen as svc.lg.osprey and open the Analyse landing page from the left navigation.
- Expect: The Analyse landing page loads, showing the Dashboards, Reports, Analysis, and Datasources cards.
- Select the Dashboards card.
- Expect: LoadGen opens the Dashboards area, where existing dashboards are listed or where you can start building one.
Verify: You land on the Dashboards page instead of the Analyse overview, confirming the card navigated correctly.
Confirm a datasource before building a report
Persona: Admin preparing BI access for a new environment
- Open the Analyse landing page and select the Datasources card.
- Expect: LoadGen opens the Datasources area where InfluxDB, SQL, and JSON connections are managed.
- Check that a connection already exists for the environment you plan to report on.
- Expect: The datasource list confirms the connection dashboards and reports will draw from.
Verify: A reachable datasource connection is present, so a dashboard or report built afterward has data to render.
Steps
Step 1
Select Overview under ANALYSE in the left navigation.
Expected result: The Analyse landing page opens, showing four cards, Dashboards, Reports, Analysis, and Datasources, each with a short description of what it covers.
This page is the starting point for every dashboard, report, and analysis you build in LoadGen.
- Dashboards: grids of panels over any datasource, saved, shared, and templated.
- Reports: customer-ready PDF/XLSX exports.
- Analysis: compare, trend, percentile, distribution, and correlation views.
-
Datasources: the InfluxDB, SQL, or JSON connections dashboards draw from.
Controls reference
Dashboards
Navigates to the Dashboards area, where you build grids of panels over any connected datasource.
When to use: Use it when you want to view or build a saved, shareable dashboard of live metrics.
Side effects: Read-only navigation; nothing on this page changes.
Reports
Navigates to the Reports area, where customer-ready PDF and XLSX exports are generated.
When to use: Use it when you need a polished, shareable export rather than a live dashboard.
Side effects: Read-only navigation; nothing on this page changes.
Analysis
Navigates to the Analysis area, where you run comparisons, trend, percentile, distribution, and correlation views over test and monitoring data.
When to use: Use it when you need to investigate results in depth rather than view a fixed dashboard layout.
Side effects: Read-only navigation; nothing on this page changes.
Datasources
Navigates to the Datasources area, where the InfluxDB, SQL, and JSON connections that feed dashboards are managed.
When to use: Use it when you need to add, check, or troubleshoot the connection a dashboard or report draws from.
Side effects: Read-only navigation; nothing on this page changes.
Verify the result
The Analyse landing page loads with four cards, Dashboards, Reports, Analysis, and Datasources, each showing a short description of what it covers. Selecting any card takes you to that area instead of reloading the overview. If a card or the whole ANALYSE section is missing from the left navigation, your license does not include that module. If a card opens but shows no data, the gap is in the destination area, such as a missing datasource connection, not on this landing page itself.
Troubleshooting
- Symptom: The ANALYSE section and its Overview page do not appear in the left navigation. Fix: Ask an administrator to confirm your LoadGen license includes the Analyse module; the section is hidden entirely without it.
- Symptom: Selecting the Dashboards card opens an empty dashboard list. Fix: This is expected until you or a teammate creates the first dashboard; open Analyse: Dashboards and start one.
- Symptom: A dashboard or report opens but shows no data. Fix: Open Configuration: Datasources and confirm the InfluxDB, SQL, or JSON connection it depends on is configured and reachable.
- Symptom: Analysis views such as percentiles or correlation return no results. Fix: Confirm test runs or monitoring data exist for the period you selected before rerunning the analysis.
